The Tropics Views from the Middle of the Globe. : Jim Thompson Art Center, Bangkok 13 Mar. – 12 Jun. 2010
|
An exhibition of pre-modern and contemporary art from the tropics, Curated
by Alfons Hug, Peter Junge, Viola König. The exhibition is structured in
several sections, each of which refers to a chapter heading in Claude Lévi-
Strauss’ work “Mythologica”. It all begins with “After the Deluge”, the chapter
that deals with nature and landscapes. Pre-modern artworks in the exhibition
touch or approach two aspects of nature: firstly, metaphorically conceived
images, secondly, representations of creatures who act in nature, the
environment of human civilization, either by threatening or assisting mankind. |

of shooting, sequencing and displaying negative and positive film with the
maintenance of the original record of the films. Photography records actual
existence and the artist displays these existences through the negative as well
as positive without changing the sequence of his shooting and without touch
up. The meticulous process requires some twenty rolls of film to result in each
piece of work. The artist works on this new series as a continuation from his
previous negative film works which focused more on temples and Thai
architecture. The new series include modern day construction, amphitheatre

Yes, I am not : BUG (Bangkok University Gallery).5-31 Jun.2008
|
This exhibition aims to present the puzzling circle of globalized people’s
consumption of information in their daily lives, starting from the consumption
process, embellishment, synthesis, acceptance/opposition, and truth seeking.
It seems like asking the question, “What do we ultimately acquire from living
in the ocean of information that crazily strikes at us?” This is conveyed by
cutting newspapers to form more than 1000 lumps of paper bolds in a letter
shape, which are exhibited as a paper installation. |

From Message to Media : BUG (Bangkok University Gallery). 22 Sep.-10 Nov.2007
|
As long as man makes art, then art will have a relation with the social and
cultural mores that shape the artist, and technology will play a role in
facilitating and changing the kinds of art that are produced, whether they
be painting, sculpture, graphic arts, or media art, one of the most recent art
forms to emerge. In the future there will also be new terms to name and
describe the changing types of art for this much is certain: that as long
as man continues to explore and experiment, new words will be coined for
the artistic discoveries he makes. |
